Jasmin-Nicole A.

Artist member since 2021
Toronto, Ontario

My name is Jasmin-Nicole, and I am a Ghanaian Canadian visual artist and community arts facilitator. My art practice includes figurative art, abstraction, and sacred African braiding traditions. I create paintings, mixed media pieces, and public art that explores a wide spectrum of themes including community, ancestral memories, spirituality, dreamscapes, Black womanhood, and nature. During my creative pursuits, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design University and a Master of Arts in Art Education from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University.

When did you start making art, and why?

I have always been artistic but I started focusing on creating art in high school. Painting is my main creative and meditative outlet. I make art to see myself represented frequently in the media as a dark skin Black woman.
